Pilot / Escort Vehicle Requirements
  • A single motor vehicle equipped with revolving or flashing amber warning light.

  • 2 warning flags mounted on the vehicle.

  • "OVERSIZE LOAD" sign mounted on top and/or front or back (depending on role) of the vehicle.

  • Two-way communication.

Pilot / Escort Operator Requirements
  • None

A Pilot Car is Required When:
  • Day Movement:

  • Load width exceeds 13' wide:

    • 1 pilot car (front) on 2 lane roads.

    • 1 pilot car (rear) on divided highways

  • Overhang (front or rear) exceeds 15':

    • 1 pilot car (front or rear)

  • When considered necessary for the protection of the public or the highway, permits may require additional escorts and/or height pole cars.
